Agency
Don’t be alarmed when I present you with a document to sign once we start to talk about real estate. It’s called the “Agency Relationships In Real Estate Transactions” disclosure, and “Minnesota law requires that early in any relationship, real estate brokers or salespersons discuss with consumers what type of agency representation or relationship they desire.”
You’re signature on this document does not commit you to work with me. It simply acknowledges that you have received the information.
You may be saying to yourself, “What’s up with all the legal jargon? I just want to buy/sell a property.” As it turns out, any real estate transaction is a legal transaction and it’s important for you to understand the many legal aspects involved.
One legal aspect is your right to be represented by a real estate agent. By working with an experienced agent like myself, you not only get the benefit of my years of experience, you also receive my fiduciary obligations to you as my client. These include:
- Loyalty
- Obedience
- Disclosure
- Confidentiality
- Reasonable Care
- Accounting
